“Shield Shrimp” (Triops australiensis)

…a species of tadpole ‘shrimp’ that is widely distributed across Australia, except the northern parts of Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Like other tadpole ‘shrimp’ this species inhabits temporary pools of water in arid regions. When these desiccated pools fill up with water the resting eggs will hatch and develop rapidly into adulthood. T. australiensis is an omnivore and will eat anything it can find at the bottom of its pool.
